The difference
Ultimate Pool League on one side, a typical APA-style league on the other — general APA notes only; UPL details cite the official league manual.
This demo summarizes published UPL rules for Chesterfield County players. It is not a substitute for the manual or your league operator.
UPL
Typical APA-style
Team match
Five individual matches Each weekly team match has five individual matches, each lasting thirty (30) minutes, scored with UPScore handicaps (§5).
Fewer, longer matches League night usually rotates through a smaller number of team or doubles matches without the same five-match clock structure.
Lineups
Captain match-ups After each individual match, the winning team puts up first for the next; captains have three minutes to submit the next player. Lineups must meet UPScore eligibility rules, including at least one player rated 450 or lower each match (§5.3–5.5.1).
Lineup by SL Captains choose who plays which Skill Level match under APA roster rules for that division.
Clocks
Match clock + shot clock Timed formats use an official match clock and shot clock throughout league play (§6).
No league shot clock APA league rules do not mirror UPL’s match-wide and per-shot timing.
Handicaps
UPScore starting scores Each individual match begins with a UPScore-based starting score for the higher-rated player, using the published handicap chart (§4–5.4).
Skill Level (SL) Matchups and spots are driven by APA Skill Levels rather than UPScore.
Breaks & racks
Alternating breaks; self-rack Players lag for the first break, breaks alternate for the team match, and players rack their own balls to the official diagram (§5.5.2–5.5.4).
Division rack rules Racking and break rules follow APA league standards for that format.
